1. Purchase the Kids Talk Curriculum
Spend some time going over the curriculum and familiarizing yourself with it. Look on the website at our videos. This is the best way to get an idea of how to set the tone in your class and how to describe the program to potential parent clients.
2. Choose the age group you’d like to work with.
What grade level? K-2? Grades 3-5? Middle School? High School? At risk? Every teacher holds a particular fondness for one age group. Some teachers like the little ones and some teachers prefer teenagers. Do what you do best.
3. Set the Price
Keep it affordable. We recommend $100-$125 per month, which usually breaks down to 8 – 12 hours of instruction, depending on whether you teach once a week or twice a week.
4. Design Your Flyer
You’ll find some templates online but feel free to design your own. Include: The Kids Talk Story Logo, the words “Writing Program,” the price, the time and location, and your contact information.
5. Find a Location
You can teach it anywhere! Even in your own home. Or at a church or community center nearby. In addition, we’ve found that parents struggle to drive their children to all the places they need to go. For this reason, we encourage building a relationship with your local school. Ask the Principal if you can use a classroom twice a week after school. Sometimes, there might be a nominal rental fee but many times, school administrators are happy to make extra resources available to parents. Once you have your location at a school, you can distribute flyers to the parents.
And you’re ready to go!
